Hello, brain, yea, this is common sense. Can I come in? You see Miracle on Ice was about more than Hockey. It was about galvanizing a nation during a period of extreme competition with the Eastern Block, specifically the Soviet Union. The implications of that victory were far more reaching and diverse than the Sox win.

BTW, I'm a Sox fan. I visit Beantown every summer and most of my relatives still live in Malden, Beverly or Nahant.

Ultimately, mypoint was that the original post said it was at least the biggest sports story since 86. Miracle on ice was 6 years earlier. Lance armstrongs is quite impressive because of what he had come back from not really on a sports level because no one gives a rats ass about cycling. While the sox defeat of the yankees was definately more exciting and interesting, they still had to win the World Series in order to silence critics who otherwise would have said we choked. And for those who don't believe in curses, if you do some research and see just how many crazy things haave happended to the sox over the years, it's hard to think that there wasn't some other power in control
