Yeah, some people living on the east coast would be shocked to find that, contrary to what ESPN would like you to think, the sports world does not revolve around Boston and New York. This isn't even the biggest sports story this year. The Greeks winning the European soccer championship is a much bigger story. Just because ESPN didn't hype that to death doesn't mean it's insignificant. Pat Tillman making the ultimate sacrifice is also a bigger story. I guess it all depends on what you consider a 'big' story.
Not to take anything away from the Tillman story, but I got quite sick of hearing about it. It was absolutely sensationalized in the media (we had access to CNN then, and it was always on) when it happened. Yes, he made the ultimate sacrifice, but so did a lot of other soldiers. I lost one in my unit. Just because he gave up a football career and a lot of money doesn't mean he sacrificed any more than those other soldiers that died, and all they get is a passing mention in a newspaper and counted as another statistic.
