Terry - I've got questions about our fuel systems that probably only you would know. On the 95-98 tour's Ford used a nippon denso side feed pintle injector, then in 98 went to a bosh disc style. Was this just another round of decontenting to use the cheaper injector style - or are there some emisions benefeits to the later setup?
From what I've read, for all but all out high rpm / high performance applications the pintle design gives the best spray pattern & atomization.
Also - three of us have noticed our side feeds run at about 31 psi (new fuel filters, FPR and in one case a new pump) which seems low compared to the standard 40ish I think most injectors are rated at. Any ideas why this is - maybe used an off the shelf bigger than needed injector and then just turned down pressure to suit the needs???
Also - do you know if both designs were saturation systems, or were the side feeds peak and hold?
I'm now thinking now that an early tour switching to a 19# mustang bosh disc injector would not really be an "upgrade" from our pintle set ups, especially if we leave fuel pressure at 31 psi - I think we'd only end up with about 17 psi out of the 19#ers. However, if 31 psi really is the norm there is lots of room to up pressure for more fuel delivery (if needed).
