Ok, Ford won't be ignoring the midsize market any longer because the Fusion will be filling that void. I've even seen articles calling it the sucessor of the Contour. So don't expect the Contour name (or the Mondeo platform) to return to the US. But let us all hope that the Fusion will be bestowed an SVT model in the near future!!!

Give it up!
Someone else already mentioned the term "spiritual successor."
Here's the lineage.
Merkur XR4Ti/Ford Sierra----->Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique----->Ford Fusion? (Hope so.)
(I mean, I hope the Fusion carries on the spirit. We all know the CDW 27 is dead)
Function before fashion.

The Fusion looks like an SUV and makes me wanna poop and throw up at the same time. If that is supposed to look somewhat like a Contour, its a big failure.

The Fusion is not supposed to look anything like the Contour. IIRC the styling cues are from the "427" concept car. Ford North America considered the Contour a failure, hence they discontinued that model here. The Fusion fills the same position in the model line, that is probably the only similarity between the two.

"I can't see Ford NA ignoring the midsize market for much longer." Duh, the Fusion is coming soon.
"If that's supposed to look like a Contour..."
No one ever said is was supposed to look like the old Tour. Considering our cars are 10 year old plus designs, who would really think they would come back the same?? The Fusion is a millienium ahead of the Contours.
Seems like newbies just bought Contours not knowing alot, joined CEG, and now ask questions answered ages ago. Such as "Why isn't there a 2005 Tour?"

The mk3/3.5 mondeo is bigger than mk1/2 mondeos and the contour. Dont know how big the taurus is tho. lol. If its bigger than the contour, then id imagine its probably abt the same size as a mk3/3.5 mondeo
my dad has a mk3.5 mondeo and beside my mk1, its huge
