Wait a minute, I thought the Five Hundred was closer to the Mondeo?

The 500 is bigger than a Taurus. It's no Mondeo

Hopefully, this clears things up. It is my interpretation of Ford's larger car offerings.
Five Hundred = Diamante = Maxima = Avalon
Fusion = Accord = Altima = Camry = Galant = Mazda6
Focus = Civic = Sentra = Corolla = Lancer = Mazda3

The Five Hundred (and the Freestyle) are essentially based on an existing Volvo platform, including the Haldex AWD system - no relation to the Mondeo whatsoever.
Neither does the Fusion have any relation with the Mondeo ... but the good news is that the Fusion shares platform and drivetrain elements with the Mazda6.

the new european focus is based off the C1 platform which is the basis also for the Mazda3 and the Volvo S40, the North American Focus is still based on the C170 platform.

I saw the same car pass by me last week, like the one Ali As Jerk posted..... It was the same color too.. Some rich old guy was driving it ( It looks a little too big kinda, I think the contour would kill it in 1/4).

I dont know if I like the fusion all so much... not the most attractive car ever. it looks more like an Escape then anything.

Looks like a case of con-fusion. That's the European Fusion - not related at all to the vehicle coming to NA. Think of a Mazda6 with an oval.
