After owning this contour for almost 2 years, I think it's time to get rid of it.. it sucks because this is indeed the best performing/handling car I ever owned

I just simply can't afford to keep up with it at the level it needs

Just barely got the $1k trans problem covered

now I'm having a/c problems.. wheel bearings, sensors, and yes rack and pinion problems as told by my mechanic was due to aamco (you may remember the thread)
motor mounts and possible trans mounts seem screwed...

it's got about 70k on the clock right now, which is why I can't beleive it

some may say just some TLC is all it needs, however not being able to afford the numerous repairs that are needed and will be needed is forcing me to trade it in probably this week sometime

the car is gorgeous and a lovely performer it's a say day to have to get rid of it... I was hoping to have it for a couple more years

anyone else ever been at this point with a tour of yours?

maybe if I was mechanically inclined I could do alot of what needs to be done... just me and my mom are scraping as it is, and the last thing we need is more trouble

it's partly our fault.. perhaps rushing into it... it was obvious it was hit in the fr fender and we ignored it

I didn't carfax it, and it was a rental

we are the 3rd owner

for some reason I just know there isn't much life left in this car

maybe now I'm looking for some advice on a new (used) car, maybe some tips from the seasoned, or recommendations on a good family sedan with some of the thrills of the tour

never like a car as much as I liked this one... I'm sure it's not typical of all tours, but in my case I guess it was

/rant/sob story off

maybe if I knew a good ceg'er that lived close he could help me fix some stuff and I could keep it

/faint cry for help

thanks guys it's been great

Try the Southern regional forum for other Texans that might be able to help you. (Perhaps instead of a mod meet you guys could have a "save-my-car" meet? ) Good luck, I myself found out last weekend that if you let problems build up they get expensive quick...

Figure out how much it will take you to fix those problems, and then figue out how much it is really going to cost you to trade. I don't know what you mean by "a/c problems" and "rack and pinion problems", so the repair cost could vary, but if you are willing to work on the car yourself, you may be able to fix all of those things for hundreds of dollars. Now, if you do trade, I dare say you are going to spend thousands of dollars on the trade, and you may end up with a car with just as many problems. A used car is always a gamble, but my experience has been that by doing my own work, whenever possible, my cost per mile is quite low.

I hate having others work on my car because they don't care about the car. They just want to fix what they were paid to fix and be done with it. They don't take their time and in fact stress other non-related parts in the process because they are in a hurry. I swapped my tranny atx to mtx and that was about 5k miles ago, no problems here. I just disconnected the steering column and dropped the sub frame down using 3 jacks, while the car was on jack stands.

I couldn't agree more. Anyway, what year and model is your tour matt?

I understand your problem, but if you'd like to keep your car, an inexpensive way to get parts is from a wreckers.
http://car-part.com/ search here for parts.

I started buying parts from wreckers and it's saved me tons of money.
