forget the heatsink . i moved my imrc to my battery rack with no drilling at all. all you need is 1 quarter inch round head screw 2 washers and a nut and about a half hour of time. the hole is already there where the battery tie down slides onto the rear of the rack. look in my cardomain link and at the bottom of the page. before i did the mod my imrc seemed liek it was ready to be changed out but now it works perfect and engine goes through high rpm range a lot smoother. the valve cover heat realy is too much for the imrc. just relocate it before it completely fails , im sure it would. you will also have to put the battery cables aside so you can mount the imrc against the rack and pull the black tab that teh battry tie down clips on to. it also makes it easier if you route the electrical wires after the box is mounted and make sure you keep the imrc cable away from the water pump pulley.oh yeah and the screw should be around 1.5 inches long

Any reasons as to why some IMRC boxes go bad, while others seem to have no issues? My old 96 had 152k+ on it and never had the box replaced or any problems with it (it was a slightly different design than my SVT) and no issues yet with my 98... ideas?

My Bad. Good idea then. The IMRC gets pretty hot under there. I'm thinking about relocating it off the engine completely. I just need to find a good place for it.
While we are at it, it would be nice to relocate the ignition coil off of the other side to a cooler place as well. Just an Idea.

good job, hopefully it does something.... well at least you have no secondary issues, mine like to open and then slam shut at 4400 rpm.... thought I lost a cylinder.

That box is bolted to the engine. Bolts are made of metal, that conducts heat. The heatsink looks great for a Pentium, but I guess you will need a bigger one if you're gonna lower the whole engine's block temperature.

hes lowing the IMRC's temp...not the engine block.

But I think hes saying because the IMRC is bolted right to the engine (with metal bolts) that I'm in effect trying to lower the entire engines temp....

but you can always take longer bolts, put some thick rubber or plastic washers and reduce heat transfer from the block. iirc someone has this done. question is if you have enough clearance w/ the cooler. personally, I think if the difference is masurable, it's laughable... now if you had alcohol cooler like in those "shuttle" computer boxes

if anyone read my post you dont need to do any fancy valve cover work just move the imrc to the battery rack. its real simple and your engine will feel like its new again. no matter what you do as long as its on the valve cover the heat will get to it. just check the last pic on my cardomain pic and see how simple it is
