Cool mod. I've actually thought about doing that myself, but didn't have any suitable heatsinks sitting around the house.
If the heatsink was hot, then heat is being transferred away from the IMRC. Instead of using the ZIP ties, you may want to use some heatsink epoxy (I believe Artic Silver sells some).
