Well on Friday I had nothing to do, a couple lazy friends, my car, and some random computer junk. So we decided to mod my car with my computer junk... And thus the heat sink was stuck to the IMRC box. Unfortunately my camera was upstairs and all I had was my camera phone. On top of that the phone was set to take 120x180 pictures so most the pictures, including the strapping of the heat sinks fan to my intake (electric supercharger baby!) didnt come out too well. But I fixed it and took some decent pics of the final result:

As you can see it was attached with precision machined zip ties.

And yes that is a P4 heat sink.

I know what youre thinking Plastic zip ties + hot metal surface = thats right 5 extra HP.

You cant really tell because of the crappy pictures, but thats a copper core in the middle, it looks neat.

Now I touched the box after about ½ an hour of driving, ant it was REALLY hot. Then put the heat sink on it and drove for another ½ hour, touched the heat sinkâ¦ and it was REALLY hot, but heyâ¦maybe it works?

Oh, and I didnt keep the fan on (I really wanted to tho) because it just wouldnt really do anything because it was right up against the fabric on the underside of the hood

Anyways I'm thinking of writing a tutorial if anyone is interested

Cool mod. I've actually thought about doing that myself, but didn't have any suitable heatsinks sitting around the house.

If the heatsink was hot, then heat is being transferred away from the IMRC. Instead of using the ZIP ties, you may want to use some heatsink epoxy (I believe Artic Silver sells some).

there is some heatsink compound on the bottom of the heatsink, but we didnt think it would stay on by itself. the zip ties are holding up rather well.

if you can show any concreat gains it would be much appreciated.....Im still on the original IMRC at 124,000 miles with no problems.

but if its proven that the heat sink removes some heat, that might be of intrest to me in trying.

I have been thinking of doing this to my moms SE. If you drive for an hour or so the secondaries don't open, I am thinking it either needs to be moved or I could add a heatsink like that.

If you use a good quality thermal epoxy you won't need the zip ties at all.

Duely noted, thank you.

As for concrete evidence...I suppose I could maybe buy a thermometer and compare temperatures, any other suggestions would be helpful. I also have never had any problems with my box after 85k so maybe this will prevent failure, perhaps not. I like the cover, so mabye I will cut a hole in it and put it back on?
