The Duratec V6 has a chain rattle for a second or two, 1995 models. The codes for a 1995 car can be read by a code reader, check autozone might sell it or sears, even. Non-OBDII, actron makes one, costs about 30 bucks. I am surprised Autozone can't read your codes..Low oil pressure can cause knock, so can a bad tensioner pulley.
