Not to mention that a few months after the accident, a received a pretty decent amount of money for "pain and suffering" on top of the $6,500 already paid out to fix the car. I received $1000, my brother who was in the car received $1000 also, and my friend who was in the front passenger received $500.

Well they are repairing what is on the car. And being that my wheels are Factory rims, they had no problem repairing them, not replacing.

But how and why were you compensated with cash? Did you sue or did insurance think you deserved it???

Well as far as I know, the process is that insurance pays the pain and suffering and then they sue the motorist for the amount. They asked us if we wanted to sue the motorist and we said yes. Everything from then on is handled by the insurance company, we have had no involvement with it.

For them to decide they amount they want to pay for pain and suffering, they talked to each one of the passengers in the car. They called my friend and asked him about his injuries if any, medical fees, missed work, etc. And then they asked him if $500 was alright, and he said yes. When they spoke to my mom about me and my brother, she tried to push for more, so we both got $1000 each.
