i think it depends on what insurance company you have. the more premium (expensive/best) companies usually cover everything, no questions asked.
my friend had a neighbor's cat piss on his chrome rim which cause some kind of permanent staining. they replaced it and he had zero deductible. ive heard of other aftermarket stuff being replaced no problem. Allstate and Farmer's (or State Farm?) are usually very good about this.

dude, if your rims were gold plated they would have to replace them. and YES, you will be able to keep your old ones. they dont care about stuff life that. they pay out millions of dollars in claims a year. if their insured hit your car, they have to replace WHATEVER he f*cked up. they'll just be happy you're not claiming a sore neck and back.
*of course, this could all be different in Canada. for all i know they could require YOU to pay him.
