FYI - the later cars do not have that orange lever to disconnect the inside release . What you must do in that instance is get one out of a earlier car from a junkyard (like I did ) . I was bummed when I realized that I couldn't defeat that lever inside , since my '95 SE had the capability (and I used it) .
On a related note , a couple years back , my best friend's Accord was broken into . He stopped at a stream on his way home from work for about 20 minutes or so . When he returned to his car , it was broken into . Since he was on his way home , it had all kinds of work related stuff in it (in his trunk) , like his BIG $$$ laptop (he's a computer programmer) , a butt-load of hard to find CDs (about 300+ of them) , his extra fishing rod (custom = big $) and some other stuff , totaling almost $12,000 . His inside lever had a "lock" on it , that used his ignition key . Fat lotta good that did , they pryed the "lock" cover off & pulled the cable ... into the trunk they went . If he had had a "defeat switch" in the trunk , it would have most likely been OK . It was a shame . We disconnected the cable from the trunk lock the next day , once the police were done dusting for prints (what a mess) , although by then it was too late . When he got his Spec-V , the inside trunk release situation was one of the first things we addressed .
I thought I'd pass that along to everyone so they could learn from his misfortune .

Thanks. Even though all my mom may ever have in her trunk is her purse, and not much in it cuz we r poor, it would suck to lose it. She has a civic and we use that trunk lock thing like you were describing, but I'll see about disconnecting it on the inside of the trunk.

I know I'm coming in on this a bit late but I have a story that should make you feel a little better.
My dad does almost exclusively all the repair work for a local PD. It so happens that while a brand new Crown Vic was waiting to be sent to him for collision damage, some kids broke into the police impound lot and stole things off of a marked unit. They got the radio, siren, misc. pieces and almost the light bar(they couldn't or didn't get to cut the 3 remaining wires out of 12). Yes they did get caught will have to pay for all the damage. Anyway, hope that makes you feel a little better.

what i thing is they need to be put infront of the buisness end off a shotgun ect.
but also i learned the hard way don't tell people about what you have in your car and if you can stelth it or hide it because after all 70% of the time what you don't see or know about you don't want
thats why every night i come home i turn my stereo off about a block away from the house

Brings back recent memories (nightmares!)for me when I had my car ransacked and my stereo, CD's, and brand new Passport 8500 X50 stolen from my car. The asshol3s that did my car also screwed me by cutting straight through the main engine bay wiring harness which took two months to fix (and even then, when I got the car back, I had to fix wires that were crossed!).
I'm installing a pager alarm in my car with a back-up battery as well, although the SVT is locked away in a garage now and will never spend a night outside to be raped by theives again!
Backup is a .357 Magnum with hollow-heads and a hungry Pit Bull. God help any slimy [censored] who tries looting my car ever again!
