I know I'm coming in on this a bit late but I have a story that should make you feel a little better.
My dad does almost exclusively all the repair work for a local PD. It so happens that while a brand new Crown Vic was waiting to be sent to him for collision damage, some kids broke into the police impound lot and stole things off of a marked unit. They got the radio, siren, misc. pieces and almost the light bar(they couldn't or didn't get to cut the 3 remaining wires out of 12). Yes they did get caught will have to pay for all the damage.
