pardon my ignorance, but why did they rip apart the upper dash, where the clock and gauges are?

As soon as I can install a remote trunk release with my current alarm I am going to disconnect the remote trunk release inside the car for this reason. (And I don't even have anything hiding back there, unless they want my compact spare.) Since you have an SVT you should be able to pop the trunk with the remote, might as well disconnect that lever.
Definitely sounds like someone who knows what was in your car, since everything is gone and cut so clean. Sorry to hear.

Is popping the lock like this common on the Fords? Is this going to be easy to fix? I have only been in the door once, for a speaker change.

The penalty for that is a shotgun to the face.
Do you have an alarm system on your car ? If not, you might consider getting the loudest, most annoying one you can find. You might also find ways to work on rigging your stuff so that it's more difficult to take out of your car.
Crap like that is the reason I don't put that kind of stuff in my car.

Something I have seen people do is, stick several capacitors in line with the power to the alarm. That way it will still power the alarm for several minutes even if the power is cut. Most people dont' look for this. It will keep the alarm alive even when there is no longer power. But only for a few short seconds once it does go off. but usually its enough to scare them or wake your ass up or someone else.
I have a backup battery on my alarm.
i did that too. and added the loudest airhorn i could find. when my alarm went off, you could hear it in my 3rd story apartment from my underground parking. loud and clear!
i like 98 SE's idea of disconnecting the trunk release. i never use it. of course i havent installed my system in my tour yet..

Oh I forgot, before anyone goes cutting their cables .. right where the trunk latches up there is an orange tab, move that over and it disconnects the remote trunk release without any damage. So if you go to sell the car, just move it back and the remote release will work again

[censored] man, that sucks. I work in the 12 volt industry and i hear this stuff everyday. I've got 9 years under my belt in sales and installation and the simple stuff makes all the difference. If you had all of those amps mounted to fiberboard it's an easy theft. Everything mounted to MDF would have slowed them down quit a bit. Anyone with any kind of upperbody strength can break fiberboard, Tank Abbot couldn't even break 3/4" MDF. Using weird screw designs like square or hex will slow thieves down as well. That is something they will most likely not have in the tool kit. Given the fact that those series rockford amps required allan wrenches to remove the side plates should have worked in your favor if MDF was used. Mounting the box directly to the chassis is another thing to do. Having a car alarm is key as well. At Best Buy, we sell a backup battery that can power a car alarm for a full hour after the main battery line is cut. Taking all these measures into account, I think it would have deterred the theft given the amount of time necessary to jack the stuff.
I know this kind of theft pisses everyone off, but take it with a grain of salt. My friend was knocked out with a bat one night after returning to his apartment just to take his system. Waking up to an empty car is one thing, waking up on the street with a concussion is another.
