depends on your state. A lot of it is image. you mentioned you haven't driven the road in 20 years so I'm guessing that you are in your 30's. That is in your favor. if you have a good driving record as well then your best bet is to flat out deny that you were going that fast. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse, if you say " i was going fast but not that fast, they will usually stick it to you

How in the F--K did it get in your little mind that court is NOT a part an officers duties?

In retrospect, it was all downhill from here. RIP, CEG.

It's usually good not to volunteer information. Yes sir and no sir is usually the best answer.
Maybe he won't be in court. Police often ticket people from out of town. They think the people will pay the ticket and not bother to show up for court.

In CA its not, hence the reason they are offered overtime here to go to court....but its not manditory.
I have heard of other states doing this too.

Like I also said, its not always part of their job. I have had 4 cops not show up to court. if they get paid for it, and its part of their job, why didn't they show up. The first ticket I made a cop show up. there were 5 other people in the court room that got to leave cause he didn't show up. Even though I was the only one who said he had to be there. I made there day i bet. Should collected money from them as a thank you.
Different states vary. It all depends on where you live, and as I stated before, different situtations call for different things. I did say that, not in those exact words but I did say it.

A lot of these laws and policies vary by state for instance in NY even if a cop doesn't show up you can still get prosecuted, and still stand a decent chance of loosing. We don't have traffic school or anything like that either. My best advice would be to get a lawyer. I have had a lawyer and have fought tickets myself and the lawyer is a major help especially if the ticket is $275. Plus they would know more abotu teh specific traffic laws in your state than you.

Thanks for all the suggestions...I'm going with the lawyer plus I'm going to video tape the road from start to end. I think it will show that the accused MPH is just not possible with being nearly out of control. As I said I spotted the police car just as I came out of a reduced speed (25 mph) "S" turn and imediatly hit my brakes...just no way I was going 69 mph I did have a ticket last March that I got reduced to 1 point when I went to court so my record was not clean. Yes...I'm over 30 (said haven't been on that raod for 20 years) I'm 43 to be exact. My driving record has been ok...I go 6-8 years without a ticket and then I get 1 or 2 in a few years. All tickets in the last 20 years have been 10-15 mph over the limit usually late at night on the open highway. This one was on a back road around 11:30 a.m.
I'm pretty sure this cop thought he had a young kid (I had a ball cap and some sunglasses on) in a hot car to nail until he took my licence back to his car. By that point he had already made an a$$ out of himself so he had to stick with his claim. I just pisses me off that now I have to spend a bunch of money to try and clear myself. I have found in the past that a lawyer helps quite a bit. A lawyer oncew told me that judges used to be lawyer and they know a lot of lawyers don't get paid if the doon't get you off or get your charges reduced. It just suck's!

all judges were lawyers once. no lawyer will take your traffic case without you paying him up front. the only lawyers who do contingency cases do this because YOU stand to win money, which they will get a percentage of (ie Personal Injury). typicaly, hiring a lawyer to represent you for a DUI can cost about $2k or more. just to represent you for this ticket will cost at least $500 or so. seriously, i think its a waste of money to fight a $250 ticket (if you can do traffic school) or fight it yourself. its a big gamble. call around to some attorney's offices and just ask if they can and what the estimated cost would be. dont pay for any consulations either. many attorneys will do a 1/2 hour consult for free. just grab a phone book and get to work. you would do some research if you were going to buy a used car wouldnt you? do some research with this.

what most people don't see is on the back of the ticket, (the top half that goes to the prosecuter) police officers write down notes about your speed, about your car, about your attitude, and etc. So unless you are calm the whole time and your car doesn't look like it came from the fast and the furious, you should be fine... go with the lawyer. good luck!!!
