Would it be nessessary to use something like 1" cornerstock to brace the corners... or is it not needed?

the corners are going to be the strongest point in your box, so no. imo, i'd brace at perp. angles if the length runs over 18". many people will layer the the side the drivers mount on for extra rigidity as well. it all depends on how serious you want to get with it. if your trunk rattles like a tin can, box rigidity will probably not help much. you have to remember that box bracing has more to do with the quality of sound than the integrity of the box itself.
