After just reading the post about doing nice things for people.....
Driving through Chicago last week....it was rush hour....there was a cross walk in between stoplights with an elderly man and his cane waiting to cross! Now, since I consider myself to be one of the more unselfish people in society....I stopped for him to cross. Not to mention by law, pedestrians have the right of way! Well, after stopping, I placed my car in nuetral, waved to the elderly man that he could cross safely! As I am waving him, I notice his face go from an appreciative "Thanks" to ....."You are about to get smeared". I knew what was about to happen next....As I desperately flounder for my gearshifter and mash the clutch in I begin to hear a terrible screeching noise getting louder and louder...and then .....BLAMMO! 1990 Grand voyager meet 1998 SVT. Before I could get my car in gear I was rear ended. Thankfully, the speed limit in the area was not that high but don't tell that to my back and neck! I was given two insurance cards, one expired, and current, or so I thought! Turns out both of his cards are expired so I sat there writing down his insurance info watching his puerto rican pride cd dangle from his rear view mirror for nothing. I gave him the address of the police station I was going to and guess what...Never showed up! Go figure. 
Oh yeah...I got plate number, address, old insurance info...etc on my police report...it's not done yet so we will see. My car was in great shape too...

You did get a plate # right? Why wouldn't you wait for the cops to arrive?

In WI they have to show up if there's more than $1000 in damage to either vehicle. I found out the hard way that you can reach the $1000 mark quite easily. Fortunately I wasn't the one at fault and the other person's insurance decided to pay 100% rather than go to court.

Here in CA the "uninsured driver coverage" is a standard part of the policy. So many damn people don't have it here you have to pay your own company to cover you in case the other driver can't. Basiclly the honest drivers pay twice for the deadbeat slobs who don't pay at all

Yeah...worst case scenario is I use my uninsured motorist section of my coverage. I am just worring about my rates going up. My bumper alone ranges from 800-1200 (fordpartsonline) online not including whats bent underneath!

Sure, that's what I spend my time doing. I also teach CEG'ers the difference between "right" and "write". Classes begin in an hour, if you would like to sign up.
