Sadly, I didn't have my DC with me during the deal. I'm going to stop by the dealer tomorrow if I have time, just to see if they've got it all cleaned up on the used car lot, or if they just wholesaled it. If they have it, I'll definitely snap some pics. 
Yes, the MPG guage is retarded IMHO. I'd rather have something more useful, though I'm not certain what else they'd put there.

WAAAAHHHH!  I WANT ONE! The location of those three instruments (the MPG being the leftmost) reminds me of my old Saab 9000; the previous owner had taken out the ashtray and installed a turbo gauge, oil pressure gauge and one other.
As for MPG, that's what a trip computer is for... Saab had one of those, too but was a slushbox and OMFG don't get me started on that nightmare...  What was I saying?

The MPG gauge confuses me, I think that you should stick a water/oil temp gauge in there instead!!

The weirdest thing about that MPG gauge is that the most useful arc of the gauge, the 20-35MPG arc, is also the smallest. It would be damn near impossible to tell whether you were getting 20 or 25MPG which is where you'll be at 95% of the time. Three-Quarters of the gauge is useless as you better not be getting less than 20 too often and you certainly won't be breaking 35.

Most of the time you accelerate the gauge will be under 20, when you're crusing it'll jump up to the top end.
Calibration is probaby for psychological reasons, people like to see their mileage gauge moving, so they know it's 'working'.

This analysis is right on. That guage moves constantly really. On the pedal, it floors the guage all the way to the right, if you're even slightly on the go pedal, you're down under 20MPG real quick, off the pedal, the guage pegs left. It's really useless IMHO. The 350Z also has a three guage set, I wonder if they have something better in the leftmost guage. The water temp guage already exists in the driver's side guage cluster so that'd be a repeat. Oil temp maybe, though I'm not sure how useful that'd be.
I get the feeling this feature wasn't real well thought out and they ended up throwing the MPG guage in there because the CPU already tracked the data so it was a shoe in. Perhaps an analog clock is another option, though that'd be too luxury oriented for a car like this since the radio already displays time.

A buddy of mine drove a Tiberon GT Special Edition with a MPG gage. It was kinda goofy but amusing. It not as useful because it doesn't track MPG per tank or life of the car, just the instant MPG. I guess you'll have to stick to trip meters and fuel recipts.

My parents' 98 Dodge Durango has the MPG gauge also. It is digital along with a compass, miles until empty, temperature, and a few other things.
