fst4dr,

Those are pretty damn good numbers!!! I like those alot! Sounds like a little traction on a warm track and a little tale wind should get 13.8,13.68!!!

JVT,
Great numbers also!! With 17's on too. Are they heavier than your stock wheels? Wow!!

T-RedSVT,
Darn good job to you! It looks like you need traction just like the fst4dr smile

13's and 14's are great numbers. Maybe I can get to the track before it close this year smile

Well, I was also running my 17's with 40 series tires aired down to 22 psi.:0 They religiously spray the track down with VHT here, but you still spinn. I know for a fact i can hit 14.00 or lower now. Just gotta get the damn launches down. Makes me wish I had the Venom so I could hit it progressive / linear from the get go....

Some interesting info:

breakdown of my 15.08 @ 93.8 run I made a few months ago at the same track...

60' - 2.32
1/8 - 9.77 @ 72.09
1/4 - 15.08 @ 93.81

Now, check out my 1/8 mile times AND 1/8 mile trap speeds from the runs last night...

Run #1-
1/8 - 9.850 @ 74.44

Run #2-
1/8 - 9.763 @ 72.44

Run #3-
1/8 - 9.742 @ 72.08

Run #4-
1/8 - 9.737 @ 74.86

Looking at the MPH of run #1 and run #4, the top of 3rd gear, I was losing power big time.

Would the combination of low pressure and headwind make THAT much of a difference? I mean, over 2.5mph higher trap speed through the 1/8th, and I end up running 2mph LOWER than in the old 15.08 run...

I guess I might be overanalyzing it, but I'm quite puzzled as to why my trap speeds were so low last night.

Or does the chip help out that much in 3rd gear, being able to rev to 7400rpm? (I still have to shift to 4th regardless)

AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH. I wanna go again dammit. smile

I know I'll have the fronts pumped to 35psi next time, that's for sure....

My best time ever was with normal air pressures. (33-35 up front and 36 out back) 15.1@92 I also ran that 15.2@91+ in the heat!

IMO there is just no way to get more usable traction with the tiny hard sidewalls and less pressure vs wheel hop. Now I don't have a quaife so wheel hop at the track is rampant if I'm close to the traction threshold. I actually prefer a little wheel spin myself; bit at the track have to rely on the high rpm clutch slip. (my poor clutch!)

For run #4, I installed the chip. Spark knock/detonation all over the place, but even so, it was my best run of the night.

I think that higher octane would fix that knock and that doing so would get you those better times you are looking for. I have read a few posts where people said that higher octane found them lost power.

John has tried everything short of av-gas to get that thing to stop pinging. I am convinced it is his chip, not his gas causing the pinging. He just needs to get his lazy ass down to FL so we can make the 40 mile trip to Superchips and get that thing fixed....

This is a scan of the best run that I have a slip for. As I said before, I didn't get a slip for the 14.15 frown This was the run before that. I literally ran the 14.28, drove right back around to the staging lanes and immediately ran agian. I didn't even let the car cool down a little like I had been doing for the previous runs. I'm car #575

FWIW, I will say that most street tires will not benefit from dropping the pressure to increase traction on the drive wheels. This is because of the way a modern high-performance (non-drag) tire is engineered. If you had a drag radial tire, which has collapsable sidewalls, that would be a different story. Otherwise, you will end up with less than maximum hookup, IMHO.

What seems to work for some folks is inflating the REAR tires to reduce weight transfer to the rear of the car. Try putting the rears up to the highest safe pressure for the tire and see how that works for you...good luck!
