Hello all,

I have a '98' SVT with a repeating Cam sensor code even after replacing the sensor twice? I have read that a clip has been known to rub through the wiring harness and short the wires that go to the sensor. If this in fact the case, where would this "clip" be located? I noticed that just before the light reappeared the car seemed to lunge abit when cruising around 3000 RPM. Are there any known causes that can lead to this problem? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I assume you are referring to code 340? Cam sensor CKT malfunction?

How often do you get the code? How is the engine idling hot and cold? How does it feel at cruise and under acceleration?

I just fixed mine, but I have to give it some more time to be sure. As you know by now it is not the actual sensor giving you problems.

I was planning to post my results as soon as I am comfortable that it is finally gone.

Let me know your symptoms.

jeff

Ok, Here's what happened... The sensor tested fine so I went to the wiring harness next, I found that the bracket the factory uses to lift the engine into the vehicle upon assembly had rubbed through the "protective sleeve" ( not much protection)and ever so slightly wore away the coating on the wht/prpl wire. The section worn was so small I needed an ohm meter to verify that I was seeing wire.
After resetting the code, I've yet to experience the CEL . The symptom which I experienced was as if someone had turned the ignition key on, and then off very quickly so as to make the car fall forward and then take off again. I hope that this will assist anyone who runs into this problem, as the shop that had the car just before I purchased it from the former owner found NO problems and suggested that he just reset the light when necessary. After going thru the whole Blower motor issue on my last Contour I wished someone would've posted their results and saved me countless hours of testing and retesting. These boards are absolutely essential in providing information and tips and I certainly appreciate the effort given by all! With that said... My SVT is pure joy to drive!

Do you still feel the buck/jerk after repairing the wiring?

Sorry I took so long to reply... No is the answer, the car runs as it should thus far. The previous owner thru a full tune up on her just before I purchased it due to a misfire code and after I fixed the CEL it's been fine. Good luck.
