I've been wanting to do this to my Explorer for a while. It doesn't make anysense to my why my XLT (mid level) Explorer has no heated mirrors (only available on the Limited model) yet my GL Contour had them as standard equipment.
Also from my observation the areodynamics of the mirrors on the 'tour seem to prevent a lot of crap (read snow) from building up on the mirror, yet on the Explorer the mirror seems to be a magnet to the stuff.

I'll take a look at the connector in the mirror this weekend and let you know what I find.

Looks like I've got a 5-pin connector in there, but only three wires attached to it.

I think that's the end of it for me, unless someone can suggest an easy workaround to not having the right harness.

Tap into the defroster wires and recontent them into the harness. Really not that hard after you find the wires. Do you have a Haynes manual? The colour code should be on there or better yet check the back of your defrost switch. Once you have the mirrors this mod shouldn't be too involved.

I've had both types of mirrors side by side.... The older ones have a small sealed 2 motor that screws in and out. The newer ones have a ring that snaps onto another ring which attaches to this crazy motor which looks fairly exposed. My 97 has the screw type.

hope this helps.

Maybe we can have a mini mod meet before the snow starts flying again. I need to put my seat heaters in and I'm sure the Mirror deally would be an easy install. Couple hours tops.

Do you already have a setup for your seat heaters or you'll have to make it? Cuz i was thinking of doing that mod too.

Nic.

I have a mental setup but I need to get the seats out of the car and figure out how to get under the fabric. Already have spare defrost switches I intend to use. Figure I maybe able to utilize the timer unit in that switch to as these heaters I have get HOT.

Do you already have some heaters? If so we can get together to do this mod. Where are you located?
