Dell Laptops Dell Desktops anyone who buys a desktop, i feel sorry for them. Their laptops are great, haven't had to many to fix, just a few that were bogged down to spyware. Dell and Tiny computers are the worst I have had. I get the most of their crap. And its always very hard to fix crap without replacing componets.

For the non-gamers, the Dell systems can't be beat.. I have 2 Dell Dimensions (an old P3-500 that I use as a server now, and a 4550 P4-2.53 that I use for everything), and I just picked up a Dell 700m laptop. They've all been rock solid, and I've had no issues whatsoever.
Over the past week, so many friends and co-workers have been getting in on the recent Dell deals. Where else can you get a P4-3GHz with all the fixings for under $400? Or with a 17" flat-screen for under $600? With legitimate software, shipping, etc?

I'll give you that one Cartman.
For the copmuter illiterate or uninterested. Dell's are hard to beat. That's all we buy now at work after dealings with custom builds and Gateway. Their Customer Support is very good.

I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment
for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety
labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I hope you all have better luck with your Dells than this guy did. I've head a couple of stories about Dell laptops that would make me never want to own one. At thoes prices however, I would probably have got one too if I was in the market for one. ThinkPad is where it's at!

No way! I hated my ThinkPad, overpriced and nothing but problems.. I've had great luck with Micron's in the past (had about 5 different ones over the course of about 4 years), and I've had co-workers with Dell laptops that have had nothing but great things to say about them.. I guess I'll find out in 3 weeks when my Inspiration finally ships.

I have always heard this too, but now that I actually repair them in the feild, I wonder why so many feel this way. I mean, it's not like the seperate components are Dell components. If the processor fails, blame Intel. Same with the motherboards, since they are Intel MB's (from what I have been told. I have not been able to hang onto one long enough to research this). If the video card fails, blame Nvidia. Same with the sound cards, blame Soundblaster or Turtle Beach. As well as the harddrives. Blame either Maxtor, Western Digital or Seagate.
I can respect your statements, but still...

Componets don't always fail to being crap from the manufacter, they fail also due to bad combinations. Dell uses the cheap unreliable parts that manufacters were gonna through away since they didn't make the cut for retail market. Hit why parts are so cheap. Now that companies know they can make money doing this with big computer companies, they are fighting and price wars are happening and dell is getting some serious deals since imo they are the #1 computer maker right now. But quanity does not make quality. As for video cards, they don't have one, and if they do its on the more expensive systems, they don't usually use intel boards as intel boards are more expensive. They use white label hard drives of wierd companies. next time you got a chance make a boot disk for partition magic, boot into dos, and check the drivers information. Its not maxtor, western digital, or seagate, fuji, samsung, its a no name hard drive they got for $0.10 on the dollar of a normal hard drives worth. Most of the time they are 5400 rpm drives unless you get a more expensive one. they give you crappy monitors that are slightly fuzzy, and less dpi, less lumins. Which means more head aches and harder to see. Dell gets by making their componets cheap. Look at world news. Dell is also known for making computers in third world companies. its not just a bunch of rumors. I have known several people who are incharge of over seas production. he sai they pay people penies to build each computer. I mean talk about supporting outsourcing, and slave labor. There is a lot of factors that go into why dell componets are cheap, and break easily.
