You're right.

When I bought it, Autozone called "temperature ...something... SWITCH" the gauge sender and called SENSOR the ECU sender. They couldn't explain why they called it switch and kept giving me the wrong part when I argued that what I need is a sensor
Took me a couple of runs to get the correct piece.
