They may be sending a good chunk of their money to their families, but they're still contributing to the economy here: First by being employed (as apple pickers and similar menial jobs that few U.S. citizens want), and also by buying food/necessities and perhaps very minor luxuries, even a used car if they can afford it and are sticking around for a while.

I'm against the current half-assed way of handing the situation, which looks to only get worse: Treating undocumented immigrants as sort-of-legal, sort-of-not-legal. Don't issue drivers' licenses to illegal aliens, just cut the bulls*** and open the border.
