They work harder than most of us ever would, ESPECIALLY for the pay/treatment/living conditions they are under, they do the jobs we would never want to do, nor would accept to do. They also keep a competitive capitalistic market in the jobs they work in, as employers can get away with paying them ridiculously low, driving down our consumer prices. One other thing, how are they supposed to put money BACK into the economy when they are making 1.00 an hour? Most of their money goes into just keeping themselves alive during the harvesting seasons, and the rest goes to their families back home.
I do agree that this particular immigrant did something HORRIBLE and I can begin to share Hitman's feelings, but you also have to realize how dependent we are on upon the illegal's, and they on us.
exactly, people dont seem to realize just how much corn milk, lettuce, and a billion others things would cost if they weren't working on OUR farms. its a catch 22. Not too mention, there have been plenty of reports in the newspapers that show that many Mexican immigrants worked on farms in Mexico. Many of them have come here looking for work because American farms have put their farms out of business. Thanks to NAFTA, our government-subsidized farmers ship over food by the truck loads daily. Tortillas cost less to import from the US than to buy from the local farmers in Mexico. Tons of farms have gone under because of this. Im not for opening the borders up but I dont see any realistic way out of the mess we're already in.
regardless of how you feel about illegal immigration it doesnt mean that people deserve to die. that's like saying someone who shoplifts at a store deserves to get hit by a bus. its not ok to shoplift, but i wouldnt be happy if someone died, especially if it was someone doing it for a valid reason. (in their mind anyways).
suppose that 4 teenage boys went to a liquor store and did a "beer run". they all run to the car and take off. boy #1 is driving his father's car tonight, a bmw, and is driving like a madman to get away from the store owner who chased after them. he hops on the freeway to and starts doing 100mph. the other boys protest, but he doesnt listen. he rear ends a stopped vehicle and the bmw bursts into flames. all 4 teenagers (16years) die. Now, i ask you, do you feel all of these kids DESERVED to DIE?? they were committing a crime (stealing beer)..... similar situation in the news story, illegals come in to US to seek work and opportunity. they pay a "coyote" to get them here. he drives like an A-hole, gets into an accident, results in death. Is it different because they were poor Mexicans? or because coming to America illegaly for a better opportunity is a far worse crime than stealing beer?
better start working on your spanish because it has been widely predicted that the US will be at a 50% latin population sooner than you think. I can already see it, in about 50 years or so, us having a mandatory dual-language mandate like Canada has now. Please dont think that i support illegal immigration because i definitely dont. My town is so damned crowded its sick! and its getting worse, exponentially. but remember, except for those of use whose parents have actually gone through the INS' process of legally becomine an immigrant, the rest of (via our ancestors) came here illegaly too, we were just "grandfathered in".
what cracks me up is that the INS would much rather let in Arab immigrants by the plane-loads than hard-working Mexicans. go figure. I didn't see one Mexican immigrant on any of those planes on 9/11.
