I bought an OBD II interface from
obddiagnostics.com for $80. Bought a cheap laptop off Ebay for $20. The software is a free download from the site. Just be careful when looking at laptops on Ebay. Be sure you get a harddrive and everything you need with it. I also got a power supply that runs off the cigarette lighter, replacement batteries are EXPENSIVE. I'd suggest sticking with an IBM Thinkpad unless you you are a laptop whiz.
