Bought a laptop from another CEGer (Eurotour99) for my OBD 2 software. Now I have portable real time diagnostics finally. I've been waiting to find a really cheap laptop to run this. You only need a 386 to run it with Windows 3.1. The one I have is a Pentium 2 so it is more than enough. I wiped the computer of B.S. I won't use and installed the software this weekend. Can't wait to play with it more. The most I've done with it since I've owned it is pull codes and reset the C.E. light since I could only use it when the car was stationary. Had a 75' cable from my PC to the garage.
Bought it on an old CEG group buy. This is Alex Peppers software.

Just some some info for newbies. For about $350 you can do quite a lot. $200 for the laptop and $150 for software. I think I got it for $120.

I was donated a crappy laptop, $85 for alex pepper's stuff, and ~$40 for a car adapter. I can drive around with mine. All for about $125. I love using it, has helped me multiple times.

Yeah the software is free to download, you're paying for the cable and support. www.obd-2.com

You mean Alex Peper makes obd-ii???
Come on, what a repost - anyone who's searched would know this already
Not sure if it's built in to the later software - but you can use the software to do things like activate the IMRC, turn on the high or low speed fan, energize the fuel pump... which can be very useful for debugging purposes.
Here an OLD link with instructions on how to use the non-push button features:

I know he's at least added the KOEO and KOER tests, but I think if you want to turn things on and off you need to enter the strings (I got the ones listed form Todras' service manual). If you do use it make sure to enter an F1 after every 10 as mentioned in the last message.

KOEO,KOER,and fan (low or high speed) tests are all able to be done without entering the strings.

What confuses you? Maybe we can help? KOEO and KOER tests basically do their own thang. Pulling codes, well I'm sure you understand that. Setting up the gauges is pretty simple as well. There are some things you really won't have to use on it, so I won't even talk about them. Then you have all the data it pulls from the sensors, you just use that data to compare to what it should be via the Ford service CDs.

Granted, she wasn't starting cause the timing was off among other things. I would like to check it out, now that she is running properly with no CEL's. Would like to get that 2nd fan working for the track, so as to not turn the A/C on And that Service CD that really is a MUST now. Oh, and a laptop. I'm with you Todd, Desktop CEL pulling ain't my cup of tea either!
