At a glance...

1035hp from a Ford Falcon XR6T engine
Fat, useable torque curve
High strength internals
7500 rpm limit

If thereâ??s one thing weâ??ve learnt about Simon Gichus of Nizpro itâ??s that heâ??s more than willing to spend the time and money developing the most super-duper tuned engines. Every time we have a peek inside his fully equipped dyno cell thereâ??s something wild bolted to the engine stand.

The last time we poked our heads into the dyno cell we happened to see this â??? Australiaâ??s most powerful Ford XR6 Turbo engine!

With a last run of 1035hp â??? running a mild 23 psi boost and with Mobil 98 RON fuel â??? Simon has been the first to crack the magic tonne. Interestingly, Simon says there will be quite a few people making big power with XR6Ts in the next few years. â??We wanted to get in early and develop something that will make that 1000hp figure while still holding together and being nice anâ?? driveable,â? he says.

Simon was drawing on his wealth of experience tuning Nissan RB-series engines when he tackled the new Ford six. â??At 4.0 litre itâ??s a big engine and, in that context, it can rev alright with the right gear â??? we plan on taking it to around 8000 rpm.â? And that takes us to one very important point. Simon says that achieving 1000hp+ reliably calls for a fine balance of torque and revs.

â??Weâ??ve held to an 800ft-lb torque limit, which we aim to get up to and maintain as far through the rev range as possible. This should protect the rods and various other parts of the engine, compared to sticking in more and more boost and watching torque go up,â? he says.

With this in mind, the engine has been built to withstand high rpm as well as huge torque.

Isn't some of that piping (the smaller piping that goes into that tall thing) a type of radiator. Anyways it has an intercooler, so the entering air is cooled. The exhaust gas is supposed to be hot right.

yeah - about every turbocharged car I know runs red-white hot on the dyno.

A lot of N/A engines do too - but in a road car you get a lot more air over the exhaust pipes cooling their surface better than in a dyno cell.

Yes, there is radiator pipe and water pump in the picture.

You can't tell me they can put a header that red hot into a street legal car.

I imagine that is part of the engine dyno apparatus.
