As some may know i just "upgdaded" from a 97 to a 99 Contour LX I4 and got a great deal on it. One "cosmetic" issue it has is the vinal around the front defroster ispealing up and the piece of trim that holds it down and allows the air through has been removed. the dealer i bought it from put screws in to hold down the vinal. It apears that the gule failed and allowed it to peal back upi can almost get it back in, but would need to remove the window to do it right. FIRST, anyone know if this is a known ford issue (hopefuly fixed free or for cheep) OR what to do to fix it, and where if your near Columbus, OH.

I think you are referring to what is known as dash-warp. Lots of contour's have this problem where the vent trim doesn't stay down etc. I think Ford did a recall on this, but Im not sure... Hopefully someone will clear this up.

recalled.. but I think they won't take the tours anymore for the recall, unless you find the right dealership. The kit to fix it is like 60 bucks (i think), and its a pita (i hear) to install. Someone else chime in or search in troubleshooting for "dash warp", I'm sure you'll find abunch on that.

Yes there is a recall 01B78 for the dash warp for all the Tour/Mystque 1999-2000. This situation is more common in hot climate. You can give me your VIN and i will check in the oasis system from ford to see if this has already be done or not. Or you can go to your nearest Ford dealer and ask them.

Nic.

The recall has been discontinued. The dash repair kit is no trouble to put in, but it is ugly as sin. I would attempt to repair it myself while saving the money for a replacement dash.

It isn't actually a recall. It is an Owner Notification Program. Owner Notification Programs often have expiration limits. This one has expired and can no longer be done and the dealer get paid by Ford.

The kit works though and is really the best answer to resolve the problem.

Do a search under dash warp or warped dash. You'll find solutions there. I had a guy up the street from me to fix mine. Had to remove and replace windshield to fix it. Cost me $200. $120 of it was for the windsheild part.
