Point made, but let me clarify:
I was just stating that the general American idea of visiting a Dr. is "I've got something wrong, prescribe me something that will fix me." Granted, it's getting better and better, but responsibility for oneself and one's health should IMO be a huge priority. It's all too common to see one's health handed over to a Dr., when all he/she can really do is get you on track. He/she can't force meds down your throat.

As far as comparing countries, I haven't lived anywhere else, and all the data I stated was presented to me in class, in talks (grand rounds), and in discussion. I know our system works, but I don't think anyone will disagree that it could use some improvement.
