Have you tried going back to the stock wires?? Just a thought... Try checking all connections around the coil pack.
As for the PCV, I would think that it would still start up, but might run weird if it was connected improperly.
Now you said it tries to start but doesn't right? Does it just turn over and act like there is no spark, or does it try to start, but just die off?
