As far as the year...I'm going to have to say I'm not too sure anymore. I was under the impression that the non-colored mirrors were just on 97 models, but after looking at the FAQ again I see that it indicates black mirrors were on the '96 GL.
In Canada the colored mirrors were standard for '95 & '96 models so that's probably how I got confused.
My 96 GL Sport (teal) and a girls 95 GL plain-jane (only option was power locks, also teal) both had body colored mirrors (and zetec autos) Personally I've never seen the flat black mirrors (or didn't notice). Mine was also a rental car to begin with, so fleet vehicles is not the case.
Maybe they were on the totally basic (no power windows/locks/etc.) models...
there is a 96 sport at the junk yard, has leather, no power windows no power locks, also no fog lights.
