I bought a used 96 Mystique GS last week for my wife with 98K miles and have been working my way through these forums since then.

I have headed off multiple issues like the water pump, IMRC, and now the motor mounts. I couldn't figure out what the heck was causing a horrible rumbling noise when the car was shifted into reverse sometimes. It turned out that the auto tranny is sitting right up on the subframe due to a set of wasted mounts.

The replacements should be in any day now and I look forward to popping them in.

I saw that others have advised working on one mount at a time to avoid any powertrain alignment issues when you don't have the Ford tool. That's just what I'm going to do!

BTW, the tranny case already had a visible amount of case shaved away because of the contact with the sub-frame. Nothing that I'm worried will start leaking, but it just goes to show that if left alone, it *will* lead to disaster.

Thanks!!!
