The linkage is located directly below the throttle body and may be tricky to see with the air intake in the way. You should be able to see it though and even feel the linkage if you can contort your arm enough. The linkage goes from the back to the front of the lower intake manifold. If it is disconnected you will know when you feel it, it should not have any play. It is easy to reassemble but you may require a new retaining gromet and to find that out some disassembly is required.

Yeah I keep forgetting your set up maybe alittle different with the OBDII. I know I can see mine pretty well when I bend down and blip the throttle. Also for my reference. The secondaries are always closed on a non vaccuum actuated system right?

Yep the secondaries remain closed until IMRC says to open.

Sorry guys, I've been in the main troubleshooting forum last two days or so. To tell the truth, I'd be happy with half (or any) power right now. I decided to change plugs and wires and the PCV valve. Real long explanation here http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=trouble&Number=741589&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7&fpart=allBottom line is that I can't start the car, I need it for work, and I daredn't touch the engine again. Changing plugs shouldn't be a two day job, as this has turned out to be so far! I have an awful feeling that the lack of spark is due to a shorted wire, but I haven't the time, patience or expertise to diagnose it. If I could run the car, I might go to Ford re the extended warranty (10 years, right, or is that just the US) So, I'm back, I guess to the original question: Need a reliable Contour experienced mechanic in this area. 'Cept now, I have to find one who can come to me, cause I can't even move it. (sigh) I think this car is like some people think of golf (the game, not the car); a complete Money-pit and a PITA, but yet I don't want to give it up! Thanks to all who provided advice so far. Help me save my Ford and my sanity, cuz otherwise, it's going in the classifieds (the car, not my sanity). Cheers all, T

I got the usual tools, some good, some POS CanTire ones, and a cheap multimeter. It's just me right now (my wife wants to roll the car out the drive and set fire to it, and I know how she feels...) I phoned a guy who might come out (for a huge fee, nach.) so I'm at the point of just giving up. Once it's running, I might talk to Ford about the harness, but more likely it'll be the Auto Trader route. (Sigh) Sucks to be me, right now.

I know what you mean. I actually like the car a lot. It's a little banged up (previous owner(s)), and it's no show car, but it feels right when I drive it, if you know what I mean.
It only has 128000km on it, I got it quite cheap (4 grand) and I think it would be a great car, once it's back up to par.
I want to try to do the work, but the last cars I really worked on didn't even have electronic ignition, let alone computers. Much simpler, and I could do all the work then. (I have fully rebuilt (English) engines before.)
I do have a full time job, so I need the transport, and don't have a huge amount of spare time to play any more. Hence finding someone local who could do some of the hard stuff.
Love the idea of help. I can pay in cash, kind, or beer/food, whatever is the done thing with you guys on the forum. And, FWIW, I do remember, and return favors (even if it's only holding an inspection light, handing over tools, etc...)
Cheers, T
