I was born in 1981. i can relate to everything except the lead painted crib...mine was stained or polyurethaned wood. Hose water rules, I still drink from the hose if im outside washing the car or something. Who's got time to go inside and get a drink?? And for years, my only protection in the car was the quickness with which my dad could reach across to the passenger seat and hold me back when he had to stop short. Meh. That's mostly the reason I don't wear a seatbelt today, although i'm getting better with that since the recent accident.

'83..this thread rocks what ever happened to diggin a hole, putting a board over it, cover that with dirt and call it your bunker? I LIVED in my forest as a kid. Building jank treehouses, shooting stuff; thoug i never had a bb gun I rember jumpin on my rollerblades in my driveway listening to Primus. Making forts in our crawlspace when it rained out. Going to our 'dunes'--some bumps on the earth that we thought dwarfed mt. everest. throwing worms at eachother after rain - they got flooded out, i think . i remember getting up every sunday morning for church, NO MATTER WHAT. If you were healthy, pray to stay that way. If you were sick, pray for better health. Church fairs, walking litterly a half mile, up hill both ways to the bus. so many memories.....thanks for the GREAT THREAD! -Tim

Born in 84, and I grew up on Nintendo, the Internet, TV, and computers. Was strolling around BBS'es in 92, and chatrooms in 94. Still though.. up until about 94, your post perfectly described my childhood. The wheel turns.

Originally posted by contour21: great post. sounds like how I grew up. I was born 6/22/82. My family were aplle farmers, so I was always on big tractors, in and out of spray tanks ( I would drop a screwdriver in there from time to time), and I ate all those apples with the allar on them, still kicking stong!
Holy sheet! I was born a day before you!
back on topic, i distinctly remember a trick we used to play in my uncles shop. Goes something like this: One guy would leave to put tires in "the pile" in the back of the parking lot. The rest of us would gather around my uncle who had fashioned a tennis ball cannon out of some old exhaust piping. He would put the tennis ball in one end, and then turn on (but not light) the acetylene torch and let the gas flow into a hole he had drilled into the opposite end of the pipe. "ready...wait till he bends over, jimmy...ok....aim...hold it steady now...light the match!" "POP...whhhhhooooo...BANG! YEAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHH"
oh, the fun we had!
Edit:
Hose water rocks!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on.
OMG, forgot all about that.. Out of the house by 8am and back when the streetlights came on (around 945pm) in summer. Yep, ran by the house during the day for a hit of koolaid and a peanut butter sandwich - hear mom yell "don't slam the door, take your snack and go outside, I just cleaned the floor".
I suppose those of us who were born long before 1984 would remember the days when we would ride our bikes all day - every day and wear the tires down to bald during summer vacation.
