i would have to disagree with that statement. if anything, the rest of the world is becoming more and more like America. European teenagers are always following in our footsteps. Look at China, they are actually starting to enjoy some capitalism. Much of this has been attributed to MTV which is now world-wide. They call this generation the Mtv generation (globally). Even after the Iraqi war "ended" Mtv was over there interviewing the upper class kids who were saying how much they love P Diddy and Snoop Dogg etc...
The world's kids and teenagers may do things differently but they are all evolving just the same. My mom and her friends talk about growing up in Germany and how things have changed so much now. The kids are just as commercialized and are party animales there as they are here.
look at japan where half of our stuff comes from. japanese youth have always been known for being quite, hard-working, and obediant. if you watch anything involving japanese kids of today theyre crazy party animals that are even more commercialized then us, hence so many of the toys we have to play with.
