1966. I grew up in the country...
...Blowing up cowpatties with firecrackers. Sneaking my Dad's 20g shotgun out for a little target practice. And the 22 semiauto, as well. Blowing up army men with firecrackers. Riding street-illegal dirtbikes without helmets on public roads and through the back 40. Blowing up beercans with firecrackers. Climbing trees. Riding along with Dad on the John Deere "A" while he plowed/disced/harrowed/planted/etc. Playing "napalm" with burning milk jugs and a pitchfork. Lighting firecrackers in my hand...
Can't remember any more "dangerous" stuff.
Function before fashion.

My youngest child arrived in 1985.
I miss the good old days, of hiding from the T-rex.

in 8th grade were going to various "jump spots" and doing/attempting gnarly bmx tricks, without helmet, pads, etc... i never broke anything and cant remember anyone out of the tons of fellow bmxers who ever did. the only time i wore a helmet was when i went to an actual ABA race track and didnt like it. i actually thought it impaired my sense of orientation.
i remember climbin around all inside the car while going down the highway in our wagon and being encouraged to play/take a nap in the back to get away from my sister in the back seat.
making a home-made sled and riding it down the stairs.
how about making a treehouse with your friends using a hammer, nails and scrap wood. not like the professional stuff you in magazines at home depot that cost your parents $10k.
how about playing with firecrackers and firewords. here in LA, we practically have to use flashlights for fireworks on the 4th now! guess that's what we get for living in the city with the most lawyers in the world.
going out to dinner was an actual occasion. now its an actual occasion to have home made meal together as a family.
i could go on for days....
How old are you...and did you grow up in Burbank?
