one thing on the filters I have not seen, is what pressures are tehy getting the flow #'s from? is it documented that K&N is testing at the same oil pressure? Is any of them testing at a pressure commensurate w/ the application?
I don't know. And if anyone has this information, I would apreciate it if they posted it, and a link to the source

The only thing listed in the K&N data books is that the filters are tested at SAE standards.
Pretty vague unless there is a set flow rating test?

The email I got from K&N said they flowed "12-16 GPM depending on size" "Flow based on 8 PSI"
For comparison, the only other high flow application for Duratecs (unforunately not avail anymore) is the Hard Driver #21. It flowed 10GPM @ 5 psi, 20 GPM @ 13 psi.
I dont know the SVT oil pump specs but for comparison the SHO V6 pump flows 12.1 GPM @ 43PSI @ 6400 RPMs. I figure our pump is probably similar or less flow?? If so, the K&N would be adequetely tested I believe.

IMHO, test data regarding an oil filter's flow, would really only have relevence when tested at a pressure approprite to the application.
ie, does it really matter how much oil it can flow at 8 psi if the oil pressure is never below 25psi?
sure it can tell you whether the flow is adequate or not, in the case of a K&N, but wtf does it say about the other filters?????

Rara, the point is the other filters (I called Champion, Mobile one, Purolator, Ford, Amsoil, Harddriver & a few others I cant recall) were NEVER TESTED above 3-4 GPM under any pressure to the best of my ability to discover after alot of calls /emails. They may be capable of plenty of flow but the only one tested to higher flow was the K&N. Now, if anyone can find data on a cheaper filter at higher flow rates - please let me know.

I hit the post every day and really don't care if I get flamed or whatever you all call it. The site is great with excellent info but there are a few out there who just seem to ***** all the time about stuff that has nothing to do with the cars or technical info. It gets really old to read responses (like this one) that never address thequestion or comment made originally. and as for the search feature- well you just get the same ***** threads there as well. Let's all try answering questions and sharing ideas again.

Sorry, agree off track a little (but the oil starvation stuff is somewhat related if that is what your talking about). I have not varified (purchaced the damper & found it fits) the PNs posted above. Doubt I will have time this month. Would like to see Tour & Cougar people get together & visually compare the dampers, even if they do not remove them. Anybody?
