Now that I have your attention, here is what I have learned (to the best of my understanding).
1) The main reason bearings are "spinning" relates to "crank whip" caused by some free play on the crank in the girdle.
2) Short of an engine rebuild with modifications to the girdle and trimetal bearings the BEST solution is a better damper. Ford has designed this already and it is already on the Cougar and Mondeo 2.5Ls. It is a "dual mode" damper, MUCH better at reducing whip inducing harmonics.
3) Knowing this I posted a Q for several days on the NECO (Cougar) forum "has any Cougar spun the bearings?" Answer - NO, its unheard of.
4) So, I will be switching to this damper & will let you know part number/cost at a later date. This seems like a must do for all Contour V6ers. Along with my other recs - a K&N "high flow" oil filter and 6.0 quarts synthetic in the sump I will expect a long lasting V6.
Many thanks to those who have helped me understand..
Thanks for the heads up Mr.Nixon. Do keep us
