Now that I have your attention, here is what I have learned (to the best of my understanding).
1) The main reason bearings are "spinning" relates to "crank whip" caused by some free play on the crank in the girdle.
2) Short of an engine rebuild with modifications to the girdle and trimetal bearings the BEST solution is a better damper. Ford has designed this already and it is already on the Cougar and Mondeo 2.5Ls. It is a "dual mode" damper, MUCH better at reducing whip inducing harmonics.
3) Knowing this I posted a Q for several days on the NECO (Cougar) forum "has any Cougar spun the bearings?" Answer - NO, its unheard of.
4) So, I will be switching to this damper & will let you know part number/cost at a later date. This seems like a must do for all Contour V6ers. Along with my other recs - a K&N "high flow" oil filter and 6.0 quarts synthetic in the sump I will expect a long lasting V6.

Many thanks to those who have helped me understand..

You did indeed Terry, this post represents the highlights of what I have learned from you and others who shall remain nameless (unless they want to "name" themselves). Just trying to get the word out.

Hey Dan - would you please enlighten us on the "6.0 quarts synthetic in the sump I will expect a long lasting V6". 6 qts is over full by the manual. Wont you get the crank whipping into the oil?

I have seen a reference to overfilling elsewhere in the forums, and would appreciate some comments...

THX!

I have motors with both spun,if the crank main goes first it trashes the adjacent rod end,the oil for that rod end comes from the main!

"Well, from Brad Noon and bicycle019. Have you ever torn down a toasted 2.5 Mr all knowing technician?"

I REALLY hope this isnt hostility directed at a guy who is helping us all out bigtime? This thread is a public service announcement sponsered (unofficially) by the 2 guys who know the subject best (obviously not me).
