... all I can say for hip-hop.

hmm...i checked it out and the first record that pulled up was 1988. it said the year NWA released their first album "straight outta compton". this immediately caught my attention because i was an avid nwa fan back in the day. their first album was "nwa and the posse" released in 1987.
no biggie but im not sure about Lipton Iced Tea's credentials on rap music.

The site was topic of debate in my Marketing Management class on Friday and those were pricely some of the comments

I'm kinda getting sick of the bling bling rap era myself. Very little of "popular" rap these days has any real substance or talent behind it anymore...Lil John (and a majority of southern rap) comes to mind. It's more club music than anything it seems...all about beats people can dance to and crappy lyrics.

As far as the mainstream or popluar rap out there I pretty much only like:

Jay-Z: simply because he has talent and flows very well plus he never writes anything down; goes into the studio and records songs from his head...that's talent to me.

Eminem: When he wants to he can put out songs with meaning but regardless he flows better than any rapper out there today and maybe better than anyone ever.

Kanye West: Not the best flow out there but I love his cd because it actually has a positive and usefull message in most of his songs, and his beats are tight.

Ludacris: Just because he's funny as hell.

I don't think the Beastie Boys are really considered rap anymore, they've kidna created they're own cross culture style but they are kickass.

Probably left a few guys out and that's just my opinion that I'm sure a lot of people won't agree with but oh well to each his/her own.

Want some good hip-hop, listen to The Roots. They freestyle like no other, and no bling-bling there, just class.

Hip-hop fans will find the series 'And You Don't Stop' on VH1 entertaining. It is a 5-episode historical documentary on hip-hop, interviewing some of the most legendary members of hip-hop history.

I was actually let down by the series, because it is so NY/LA-centric that almost no one from the "flyover" area gets a mention. There is one episode that's supposed to be about non-coastal hip-hop, but they spend half the time talking about coastal influence on those artists, and why they would be nothing without New York or LA. The entire mid-90s are lost with the exception of the Biggie/2Pac feud. Master P (who I hated) gets 3 seconds of screen time, and Bone Thugs (who I liked) get absolutely no mention. They chose to talk about Eve and Foxy Brown instead of those two.

So anyways, it's a good series to watch, but I am a little disgruntled by several parts of it.

I was just watching that and agree. They talk about all the stuff anyone into hip hop already knows. They also said tupac was born in 70 and died in 95.....wtf
