I just bought my car and realized i am gonna need an oil change soon- What oil do you guys usually run in yours? I'm assuming a synthetic oil would be used by most, but who knows-

after blowing the motor in my 00'csvt and getting a factory rebuilt longblock. i used castrol synthitic 5w30 but i lossed 1 and a half to two quarts of oil every 1,500-2,000 miles. even after four oil changes after the inital break in period using regular factory motorcraft 5w30 i was still lossing oil some how.
since then i've run ford motorcraft 5w30 with less than a half a quart missing after 2,000 miles.for me ford motorcraft is the way to go.
i believe changing you oil on time every 3,000-3,500 miles is more important than the type of oil. dino vs. syn.

I snagged a '97 GL Zetec Bi-Fuel that had previously been a GSA fleet vehicle. It had 33k on it and the first oil change was to Mobil-I.
It's got 42k on it now and looks to have used/lost about 1/4 of a quart in 9k. I think I'll stick with Mobil-I !!
Grow up! Quit asking stupid questions! And quit acting like you know it all!!!!

Syntec is NOT a True synthetic!
It also promotes high ash content (acidic build up)
Popular Science/Mechanics (one of them) did a great write up on it a few years back just blasting the holy hell out of it and it's "synthetic" claims.
~~~
If one wants to run synthetic I would recommend Mobil 1 or AMSOil.
Followed closely by Pennzoil. Then Valvoline.
~~~
Now if you want to run Dino most of the "major" brands are good.
I do agree that Motorcraft is made out of one of the better dino base stocks.
~~~
I run Mobil 1 0W40 because 5W40 is not readily available locally.
