so any of you guys that have done this before please feel free to give me some pointers.

http://www.svtlightnings.com/go_rila/ford_svt_contour_3.htm

Got a couple of questions so far. The 2.5L motor was disconnected from the transmission and I noticed no pilot bearing/bushing in the end of the crankshaft. Ford says there is a part# for that piece and I have it on order. Also, there is a sensor on the 2.5L that bolts into the block on the back right-upper side of the block. The 3.0L has a similar fitting, but the threads are smaller. Is the sensor the same with just a smaller thread on the 3.0L or am I in trouble. I think it is an engine temperature sensor that feeds information into the PCM.

That my friend, is your knock sensor. You have to drill and tap the 3.0 block and reuse the 2.5 knock sensor. The 3.0 version has female connector, the 2.5 has male (or vice versa, I actually forget which, but I know it just ain't the same).

The 2.5 sensor is the "nipple and threads on the cap" type. The 3.0 has a hole in the sensor that a screw is run through into those (smaller) threads. I actually bought and returned the 3.0 version.

Good luck! Do me a favor, let me know if your oil pickup tube fits on the 3.0. Mine didn't (until its bracket was bent to fit), but I have not been able to find anyone with the same problem. It's been bugging me ever since why I am the only one with that problem.

Sixpipes, I'm getting ready to do the 3L upgrade starting this week. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

Where did you end up purchasing your 3L from???

What has been the most difficult task so far???

The most difficult thing to date was figuring out what to disconnect when dropping the motor/cross member assembley. I'm sure the most difficult of all the tasks will be the converse. That is, what order do you connect all the electrical and accessories when placing the motor back in the engine compartment? Unfortunately, I did not disconnect everything myself (I had some assistance during that phase) so it will be like brain surgery putting everything back in the proper order. smile

Sixpipes, thanks.

What made you decide to drop the engine instead of pulling it out???

How long did it take???

Are you in the DFW area???

Six, where are you located in Texas? I'm in Dallas, maybe we can get together for a meet soon?

MTX75's ,Duratec & Zetec do not use a pilot bearing. The input shaft is supported by two taper roller bearings, most FWD transmissions havenot used a pilot bearing for years! :rolleyes:PS Why are you using a 2.5 EEC module on a 3.0 motor re knock sensor, fuel & spark maps(dont match?)
