I hope you are making 4x what you were making in CT!

Same house in Charlotte would go for $150-$180k depending on area.

$500k is just ridiculous.

I wish, I'm making about 2x what I'd make back in NY (Xerox hq is in CT, but I never lived there).

SD hit the most unaffordable community in CA because the salary to house prices don't jibe. We may not be as expensive as San Jose or San Francisco, but only like 10-12% of the local population can afford a house.

I stay because in the winter I can drive 30 minutes to take the kids sledding up in the mountains, come home and Mt. Bike in 70 degree weather and then get a nice 80+ degree winter day with the Santa Ana's. Plus there are stil alot of teleco and defense jobs here, so there is no great fear over suddenly ending up jobless.

Yeah living in san jose, has it's major draw backs. Everything is a butt load more. My mom just bought a condo/townhome for 320k and it is a 2/2 with no yard and only 1050 SQ feet. she had to use some of her retirement money to get some of the down payment covered. though the weather and location is great around here. Well except we have really bad drivers
