Just out of morbid curiosity, I've looked at spits of land in Napa and Sonoma that have 2 bedroom, 1 bath shacks sitting on them. Average price runs around $800k...
That would give me 5-10 acres in a NICE area of the KC area (Lenexa, Overland Park, etc.) with a 4-5K sq foot residence, 4 car garage AND give me enough left over to furnish the damn thing.
There are times I think CA needs to move to a 50-60 year mortgage option...
