I took my car to Walmart for a quick oil change and when I got it back, they told me they had to fill my car with 6.5 Quarts. I argued with them that they had overfilled my car but their explaination was that the oil filter requires some extra.

Isn't 5.5 quarts the correct volume? What should I do?

I beleive the 95 book says 5.2, since our windstar said 4.8 or at least that is how I remembered it

anyway the suggested amount is 6 qts so yes they did over fill it

and kinda honestly unless you live in a place that dosen't allow for you to work on your car, change your own oil it avoids trouble like this + wal-mart for car work

Look in the back of your manual, it will have oil fill capacities for oil change only, and oil+filter change. For oil & filter change manual says 5.5 qts. Many here put in 6 though (myself included).

The main thing is to check your dipstick. If ir reads overfull have the excess drained. The oil guns they use are not always exactly calibrated.

And don't have your vehicle worked on at Wal-Mart anymore.

My owners manual says 5.8 quarts but I always use a full 6 quarts.

Many CEGers recommend 6.5 quarts to help overcome potential oil starvation issues if you are involved with lots of high speed spirited driving, especially with long high speed right turns at high RPM.

Ah crap!

My bad, you're right big jim, 5.8 qts is recommended for oil and filter.
