Changed the fluid yesterday. I decided to try a mix.  Went with 2 qts of ATF+3 and 0.6 qts of Mobil 1 ATF. No extra FM added. If you don't add the friction modifier you'll end up saying bu-bye synchros in no time! Without the XL-7 there's not enough friction for the synchros to catch properly, thus wearing them out faster as well as wearing the gears through a higher chance of grinding.
I myself went with MTL and NEVER looked back. The only other option I condone is the Ford "Honey". The Mobil 1 ATF cocktail claimed my tranny's 3rd gear synchros as well as many others CEGer's. It's just WAY too slick.
