I agree, the story contradicts itself a little as well.

The picture in question:

It appears to be one of those "signed" pictures they send out to registered party members (my stepfather gets them sometimes as a registered republican whom donates). Perhaps this was the cause because it is not your typical textbook headshot. Its hard to tell with such inconsisent reporting in the story
