The PCM does not get an open signal until they are actually open. There is a switch in the IMRC box that is tripped at full travel. When they open is PCM dependant.

Right, so there should be a control signal from the PCM to the IMRC box that tells it when to open. The lag from when that signal is sent out to when the valves are open (or when Puck's pressure switch is tripped) is what I'm talking about.

the lag you are talking about is a fraction of a second... i've tried it also, you can hear the IMRC working, look at the cable and it pulls it all the way instantly... now as for getting to 5K, let's say it took me a city block at a very low throttle angle, and well that's why i stopped at 5K cause it wasn't climbing anymore and the sound was hurting my ears... as for me thinking the lower limit is 3100 i have many reasons why... one way i was able to determine was getting the secondaries to open at a given RPM by quickly mashing the peddal... so i would cruise at 2500 mash pedal nothing until they climbed past 3K... then i did this again at 2600 mash pedal nothing again... increment RPM by 100 each time and when i got to 3K mashed the pedal they opened, 3100 mashed the pedal and they opened again, unfortunately my eye is not fast enough to determine the exact RPM... i have an autotap cable and would love to get actual numbers but i don't have a laptop... as for my testing on it being completely TPS... well i would slowly increment the throttle angle and by feel alone try to figure out when they would open... regardless of the RPM they always seemed to open at the same FOOT angle... notice how i said foot, being this is not scientific but my hypothesis do to more scientific testing upon.

I have logged countless miles, hwy, city even sitting in my garage and reving the engine from the throttle body lever and watching the cable... now i just need to get a scan tool on this

How about us OBD1/EEC4 people? As I understand it, the 95's needs vacuum AND a signal from the PCM. When I shut off the engine (no vacuum) I can watch the secondaries flop open. Any similiarities?

The secondaries throttle plates both open the secondary intake ports. That's about it.

my guess is the vaccume acually is the force that opens them... instead of some sort of signal... vaccume does all kinds of cool stuff.. on my cougar i had a problem with my panel/floor HVAC function.. it wouldnt change from panel... took me all day to figure out i forgot to plug the vacume line back into the manifold.. i had no idea that the HVAC acuatator would be vaccume controled... heh.. guess im a bit naive bout some things.

Did you remove the shafts too? What were your results?

What did you use to plug to now empty holes? How did you go about doing it?

Me too me too me too! laugh I used bolts that were the right size to barely slide in the open holes and JB welded them in place. That way I can heat and remove them if the need ever came up (which it hasn't). Of course no dyno except my butt was used and I have a 3 liter so no claims of gains will be made. I love it! eek

Does anyone have a pic of the location of the adjustment screw for the secondaries?

Also, similar to his method of finding this all out, here's something fun. For ATXers, push the stick all the way down into '1'. Slowly accelerate and hold the revs at about 2500. Then mash the pedal. It's fast. Then slowly rev up to about 4000 and mash the pedal. It's REALLY fast! :-D Makes my TC go off and the **** inside my car slides all over the place! This just shows you how much of a difference the secondaries make, as well as where the power band is. This also works in 2nd gear..... :p
